Alicia Mucher took over as head women’s basketball coach at Houghton College in 2012, becoming the 10th coach in the program’s history.
As a former Houghton standout, Mucher scored 1,353 points during her Highlander career, while tallying 359 assists, 279 steals, and 161 made three-pointers. When she graduated, her point total ranked No. 2 all-time in Houghton women’s basketball history.
She was honored by the Northeast Atlantic Conference as a second team selection in 1998-99 and 1999-2000, earned honorable mention honors in 2001-2002, and was a First Team All-American Mideast Conference honoree following her senior campaign.
Her coaching experience prior to being named head coach spans nine years, beginning at Houghton as women’s basketball assistant coach and head junior varsity coach, and continuing as head coach of two competitive programs in the largest high school division in Colorado. She most recently served as a varsity assistant on the high school level in West Lafayette, Ind. Mucher worked as a coach and counselor at Houghton basketball camps as a player and has continued to return in that role since graduating in 2003. She also holds master of science degree in physical education/exercise and sport science from the University of Central Missouri.
